Writing raspbian image to SD card using Mac

The commands differs slightly between Linux and Mac and this is the procedure that I followed to get a Raspbian image transferred to an SD card using my Mac.

  1. Download the image from Raspberry Pi.
  2. Inserted the SD card in the SC slot and identified the disk with the mount command, to be at /dev/disk2s1.
  3. Unmounted the SD card so that a new image can be written to the card.
    diskutil unmount /dev/disk2s1
  4. Wrote the image to the card using dd, with the last letter and digit removed.
    sudo dd bs=1m if=Downloads/2017-01-11-raspbian-jessie.img of=/dev/disk2
  5. Inserted the card and booted up the RPi machine…
